Chain Replacement

Essential for your bike chain replacement First, you'll need to buy a replacement chain that fits your bike. You'll also need a chain tool. This is a small handy tool to remove the old chain and to install the new one. It’s very helpful! You will also require some lubrication. It is an oil that protects your new chain, makes it work orderly, and prevents it from rusting. Collect all these tools before you begin.

Now that you have your tools prepared, let’s remove the old chain. First, you want to put your bike in the smallest sprocket and chainring. The sprocket is the round cog that the chain will wrap around, while the chainring is the cog that the pedals will attach to. Switching to the smallest helps get the old chain out. Next, take your chain tool and put on the link of your chain where you want to take it off. This tool is very important! Twist the handle of the chain tool to coax the pin out of the link. Remove the pin and the chain will finally be free! Now you can remove the old chain from the bike altogether.

When and Why to Replace Your Bike Chain

Once you get the old chain off, it is time to take a look at the new chain. It is imperative that you verify that the new chain is the proper length. If it’s too long, it can create issues while you’re riding, and if it’s too short, it won’t fit correctly. The loonsin track chain needs to be sized for an outer big-to-big on the largest sprocket and chainring, but if it’s too long, it will droop or hang from a smaller inner big-to-big. With the new chain aligned next to the old chain, use the old chain to measure the length of the new chain; align the ends. This means that there should be perfect alignment of both chains. Then you add two links to that length and cut off the excess chain with your tool. This will ensure your new chain is the correct length.

With our new chain primed, let’s get it on the bike! Begin by push new chain through the largest sprocket and chainring. That means you’ve got to loop it over the big gear. After the chain is installed, you will use the chain tool again to link the two ends of the chain. Be sure to push the pin all the way in. This is especially important to avoid the chain from falling apart when you ride. And last, push it down so it's level with the link. It is a crucial step in ensuring that your new chain is secure and strong.
